Marfan Awareness Month - Understanding Marfan Syndrome

Marfan Awareness Month | Understanding Marfan Syndrome 💙

Marfan syndrome is a genetic condition that affects the body’s connective tissue—the “glue” that helps support and hold everything together. Because connective tissue is everywhere, Marfan can impact many parts of the body, including the heart, aorta, eyes, bones, and joints.

One of the most serious concerns with Marfan syndrome is its effect on the aorta, the body’s main artery. The aorta can become enlarged or weakened over time, increasing the risk for serious complications if not closely monitored. The good news? Early diagnosis, regular imaging, and proper management save lives.

Marfan often looks different from person to person. Some people may be tall with long arms, legs, fingers, or experience scoliosis, vision issues, or joint flexibility—while others may have fewer visible signs. That’s why awareness is so important.

At Aortic Hope, we’re here to support individuals and families affected by Marfan syndrome every step of the way—through education, community, resources, and connection. No one should have to navigate this journey alone.

This Marfan Awareness Month, let’s spread knowledge, encourage screening, and keep the conversation going—#ASAP

Awareness Saves Aortas. Period. 💙
