We are thrilled to announce another Aortic Hope and Think Aorta US volunteer, Bonit Sharma, has published his first book titled BEYOND THE TEAR A Memoir of Aortic Dissection, Stroke, and Survival
You may check it out here https://www.aortichope.org/post/reading-resources-by-the-community-for-the-community
At 43 years old, Bonit Sharma was living an active, healthy life when a sudden, explosive pain changed everything. A Type A and Type B aortic dissection—one of the deadliest cardiovascular emergencies—was tearing through his aorta. But the real battle wasn't just survival. It was fighting to be heard.
After two emergency room dismissals, a missed diagnosis, and six days of active dissection, Bonit's life was saved by one critical question from his uncle: "Has anyone done a CT angiogram?"
Beyond the Tear chronicles this medical crisis, the emergency surgeries that followed, and what it truly means to survive the unsurvivable.
But survival, Bonit learned, is not a one-time event. Two years after his initial dissection, strokes began—episodes that would lead to permanent partial vision loss and require yet another open-heart surgery.
This memoir follows his complete journey through multiple medical emergencies, complicated recovery, and the long road to learning how to live again after trauma. Beyond medical facts and surgical timelines, this is a deeply personal account of resilience, family, faith, and the power of never giving up—even when the odds are stacked impossibly against you.
Written for survivors, caregivers, healthcare providers, and anyone navigating medical crisis and recovery, Beyond the Tear offers both a powerful patient story and practical wisdom for advocating within a complex healthcare system. It's a testament to the importance of listening to your body, trusting your instincts, and the extraordinary people, medical teams and loved ones, who hold us up when we can barely stand.
Congratulations Bonit!
