I am Carin Andersen, Founder and Board Chair for Aortic Hope and Iโ€™m finally ready to share ๐—ฃ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐˜ ๐Ÿฎ ๐—ผ๐—ณ of ๐‘ด๐’š ๐‘ฑ๐’๐’–๐’“๐’๐’†๐’š ๐’˜๐’Š๐’•๐’‰ ๐‘จ๐’๐’“๐’•๐’Š๐’„ ๐‘ซ๐’Š๐’”๐’†๐’‚๐’”๐’†๐Ÿซ€

Part 1 took you through the fear, waiting, uncertainty and emotional journey

The days in the hospital waiting for surgery.

The final moments before being taken to the OR.

My aortic valve replacement, graft replacement and bypass.

Waking up.

Sitting up for the first time.

Taking those first steps.

The small victories.

The laughter.

And the beginning of finding my way back to myself.

This isn't a polished version of open-heart surgery and recovery.

I wanted to show the parts we don't always talk aboutโ€”the fear, the vulnerability, the exhaustion, the importance of having people beside you, and those tiny milestones that suddenly feel HUGE.

There are also moments that make me laugh nowโ€ฆand some that made me laugh then. Because apparently even open-heart surgery couldn't stop me from negotiating, counting my walking steps in twos, or finding humor in some pretty bizarre situations. ๐Ÿ˜‚

One year later, I can look back at the woman in this video and say:

Not without complications.

Not without fear.

Not without tears.

And definitely not without my village.

If sharing my journey helps even ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฒ ๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€๐—ผ๐—ป preparing for surgery feel less afraid, more prepared, or simply realize โ€œ๐˜€๐—ผ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฒ ๐—ฒ๐—น๐˜€๐—ฒ ๐—ณ๐—ฒ๐—น๐˜ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ถ๐˜€ ๐˜๐—ผ๐—ผ,โ€ then sharing these incredibly personal moments was worth it.
