Today, meet Alvaro Martinez, one of our dedicated volunteers who helps us spread awareness, share knowledge, and support the aortic community.
Whether it's helping behind the scenes or contributing to our mission, Alvaro is part of the team working to make a difference in the lives of patients, survivors, and their families. ❤️
"Hi everyone! My name is Alvaro, and I’m a final-year medical student at Universidad del Rosario in Bogotá, Colombia, graduating in December 2026.
-Throughout medical school, I’ve developed a strong passion for cardiovascular medicine, particularly aortic and vascular surgery. My goal is to pursue a career in cardiothoracic or vascular surgery, combining clinical practice, research, and surgical education. I’m especially interested in aortic disease and finding innovative ways to improve outcomes for patients facing complex cardiovascular conditions.
-A fun fact about me: I’m a big fan of creativity and technology! Outside the hospital, I enjoy video editing, graphic design, and developing digital tools and apps. I love finding ways to combine medicine, technology, and education.
-What I enjoy most about volunteering with Aortic Hope is being part of such an incredible family. I’ve been fortunate to be part of the Aortic Hope family for the past two years, and it has been an amazing and truly rewarding experience. I’ve loved connecting with patients, families, healthcare professionals, and advocates who share a common mission.
Being part of a community that provides support, education, and hope to those affected by aortic disease reminds me why this work matters. I’m incredibly grateful for the people I’ve met, everything I’ve learned, and the opportunity to contribute to such a meaningful mission. ❤️
