Women Face Higher Risk of Disabling Stroke After TAVR, Study Finds

Cardiovascular Business is a healthcare media outlet and have reported a new study of nearly 380,000 patients found that women have a significantly higher risk of stroke after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) than men, with disabling strokes—those leading to death or long-term care—driving the difference (1.61% in women vs. 1.02% in men). While men presented with more cardiovascular comorbidities, women still faced worse stroke outcomes. Researchers stress that this sex difference should be considered in patient counseling and call for targeted strategies, such as embolic protection devices, to help reduce disabling strokes in women.
