" Although I still consider myself a “Jersey guy” (yes I am a huge Springsteen fan and have seen him over 40 times….most recently 4/4/2024 in Los Angeles), I have lived in So California most of my adult life. I have always been very health conscious and active.  I am an avid snow skier and sailor.

I was in Kauai in July 2018 for a vacation with my wife, son and daughter. After several days of hiking, snorkeling and enjoying some great meals I was in the gym working out with my daughter.  It was Sunday July 22, 2018.   I was doing an exercise with light weights that I had done hundreds of times when I felt a tightness in my chest and my back locked up.  My son (in med school at the time) got back from a run and took one look at me and said we are going to the ER…..it was a Sunday in Kauai and I was taken to the community hospital.  The ER Dr. tested me for a stroke (negative) and proceeded to do a CT (confirmed a Type A AD). Within an hour my wife and I were airlifted to Honolulu where Dr. Carlos Moreno and his team were waiting for me.  To this day I cannot imagine what my wife and children were going through that day and night.  After the 8 hour surgery, followed by 7 days in the hospital I was released and came back to L.A.

My journey was like many others and I am soooo grateful for my family, the team that “saved my life” and all I have today.

Since I retired from a career at Kraft Heinz, I have wanted to give back to the community.

I continue to exercise daily, love boating, play golf and volunteering whenever and where ever I can."

Please welcome Mark😊
