We are so excited to announce the addition of Maria T Herrera, Aortic Dissection Survivor, Author and LCSW. Maria will be volunteering as a Director of Support Services, moderating our newest Support Group Meeting for individuals that speak Spanish.

"María T Herrera is an immigrant bilingual LCSW owner of Teyolia LLC, Individual & Family Therapy in Aurora, IL. Her professional experience includes working with individuals, couples, families, and groups. As a therapist, her methods encompass humanist theories such as Client-Centered, Trauma Focused, Self-Psychology, and other current therapies. Her ideals include helping others and advocating for equal rights, and she has a great passion for human rights, specifically immigrants.
Since arriving in the United States, she has focused on education, beginning with learning English in an ESL program, her GED, a BA in Sociology, a Master's (MSW), and a Doctorate (DSW) in Social Work. She worked for the State of Illinois for several years as a Social Worker/Therapist in different agencies.
She loves writing poetry in English and Spanish and has published two books, Dissected, Healing with Poetry, and The Black Forest; her first book birthed after her first Aortic Dissection surgery, describes her traumatic experience and shares the poems that helped her emotional healing. Her second book comprises romantic poems, some in Spanish, dedicated to her family."

Su experiencia porofesional abarca terapia individual, parejas, familias y grupos. Como terapeuta, sus métodos abarcan las teorías humanistas, Concentración en el Cliente, Enfoque en el Trauma, y Autopsícologia, así como otras terapias del día. Sus ideales se basan en ayudar a los demas y advocar por igualdad de derechos, con una gran pasión por los derechos humanos, en especial los inmigrantes.
