Dr. Benjamin A Youdelman,
Co-Director Maimonides Aortic Center
Dr. Youdelman is a cardiac surgeon who specializes in Endovascular and Aortic surgery, and performs all types of cardiac surgery. He is the Co-Director of The Maimonides Aortic Center in Brooklyn New York with the Chief of Vascular Surgery Dr. Robert Rhee. Together, they practice a coordinated approach to the entire aorta, the patient and family. Multidisciplinary meetings review all options for aortic surgery and the right operation, at the right time on the right patient ensures the best outcomes.
Dr. Youdelman and established Aortic Bridge , a support group in New York City for patients with aortic disease. He then joined with the national organization, Aortic Hope, which conducts monthly support groups meetings with patients all over the country. An annual evaluation of the incidence of post-traumatic stress disorder in the aortic community is conducted and reported to psychiatrists and surgeons for a better understanding on how to help patients with aortic disease to cope with the stress of the diagnosis.
THINK AORTA ,an International campaign to raise awareness about aortic disease, was brought to the United States through the efforts of Carin Andersen, the president of Aortic Hope, and Dr. Youdelman, who have worked together with others to establish this as a non-profit campaign in the United States. THINK AORTA US focuses on the final common pathway of all the syndromes, genes, and strong family histories; the aorta itself. Dr. Youdelman is helping THINK AORTA to expand into more countries and he believes it will save more lives of patients with aortic disease than anything we have ever known.
Dr. Youdelman completed his many years of training as a heart surgeon with a fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Endovascular and Aortic Surgery. He spends his very rare free time playing piano and guitar and hanging out with his wife and three kids in New Jersey.
